195: May Movie Madness

IMG_0872.JPG

This week, we're starting something a little different for the month of May. All month long, we will be pitting some of our favorite movies in combat. But, we're not the only ones doing this, listen to all the shows in the Obscure Entertainment Entertainment Network as Obscure Gentlemen will be doing the same thing with cartoons and 12 For A Penny will be following suit, but with songs! Will your favorite movies move on and make the cut? Listen to find out, boppers!

194: Iron Man

IMG_0773.JPG

Another big week is upon us, boppers! And this one's been 10 years in the making. The Infinity War looms over us, and to prepare, we've decided to go back to the beginning. The beginning of the MCU, that is. Before there were stones, before there was a Thanos, before there was an Avengers, there was one movie: Iron Man. So buckle up, boppers, as we're joined once again by the Editor In Chief of Obscure Entertainment, James, as we ask if Iron Man holds up!

193: Superman: The Movie

IMG_0687.JPG

This is a big week, boppers! This week, Action Comics, the magazine that introduced the world to the Man of Steel, will be releasing its thousandth issue. This is a big deal, boppers, so we figured what better way to celebrate this historic moment than to discuss the classic, Superman: The Movie! The movie that made us all believe that a man could fly. And to help us celebrate this momentous occasion, we're joined by Mr. Obscure Entertainment and friend of the show, James! So listen along as co-host Aaron (number one Superman fan this side of Bibbo Bibbowski) toasts us and makes you believe that a man can cry!

192: Rocketman

She packed our bags last night, preflight and all that stuff. Harland Williams drank Jim Carrey's pee, he introduced Ben Stiller to 7 Minute Abs, and now he's going to Mars! Travel back to 1997 for a tale as old as time, Ulysses. In which a man with a dream of one day going to space gets a chance to see it come true. This is one of Aaron's favorite comedies from his childhood, so let's see if it holds up, boppers!

191: Legends of the Fall

legends of the fall PZ.jpg

My dearest boppers,

The recording has been hard without you around. We had to watch and discuss a movie about turn of the century in which three brothers all find themselves in love with the same woman whilst being raised by Anthony Hopkins. Brad Pitt fought a bear and times were tough, but perhaps things should have focuses more on the bootlegging storyline. But we have sworn to find out whether or not Legends of the Fall does hold up.

Sincerely,

Plain Zero

189: National Lampoon's Animal House

IMG_0402.JPG

We head back to college to enjoy a Toga party, skip some classes and pledge your favorite fraternity: Delta house! This week, we watched National Lampoon's Animal House where we discuss what is largely considered to be an all time comedy classic. Maybe we'll even be able to figure out why Nick hates John Belushi so darn much. So be sure to listen up boppers, or else we'll have to put you on double secret probation!

186: Solarbabies

We're still spending time with Yama from the 12 For A Penny podcast this week, and this time we're going back to the 80s, where the future meant playing games on rollerskates and living in a wasteland. This week, we watched the cult classic, Solarbabies, which wound up being unlike anything most of us expected, except for Yama. So give it a listen as we determine whether or not this one holds up!

185: White Man's Burden

And we're back to our usual format of discussing one particular movie, and we've brought in a special guest to help get us back on track! This week we're joined by our good friend and co-host of the 12 For a Penny podcast, Yama! Aaron and Yama had specific memories of one particular scene from a movie and that's what brought us to discussing White Man's Burden, a story of an alternate timeline in which racial stereotypes are flipped and John Travolta kidnaps Harry Belefonte. So listen up, boppers, because this one's sure to be a doozy!

182: The 13th Warrior

IMG_0038.JPG

You like vikings? You like Antonio Banderas? You like adventure? If so, then this week's episode will be right up your alley, because all three of those things are present here! In the grand tradition of Sean Connery playing a Spaniard in Highlander and Kevin Costner playing and Englishman in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Antonio Banderas plays a man from the Middle East that finds himself travelling with a group of vikings in The 13th Warrior. Will this action/adventure romp hold up? There's only one way to find out boppers, so listen up!

180: First Blood

IMG_3790.PNG

This week, we go back to a classic from that other buff action star that isn't Arnold Schwarzenegger. I'm talking about Sylvester Stallone and that hero he played named John. Because this week, we watched First Blood. The story of John the Vietnam War veteran and the small town sheriffs that made his visit miserable. John finds himself trying to survive both physically and mentally. Does John's story hold up? Listen and find out, boppers!

178: Home Alone

IMG_3660.JPG

The holiday is upon us, and so we've decided to spend the time Home Alone! Watching Home Alone that is! Meanwhile, Aaron and Travis keep the party they started last week going with some disastrous results as one falls flat on his face and the other starts to vomit. Things go off the rails in a way that just screams Plain Zero holiday special. So here it is, the last new episode of the year! We'll see you again in 2018, boppers! And thanks, for joining us for our shenanigans every week!

177: Gremlins

IMG_3610.JPG

Christmas continues to barrel towards us like a freight train without breaks, and as we brace for the inevitable impact, we take a moment to look at another holiday disaster, namely, what happens when you give someone a Christmas gift that has rules: Gremlins. And since one holiday deserves another, Aaron and Travis toast each other and decide to party up in here with some alcohol.
